This blog was an assignment for my chemical engineering fluid mechanics course at Auburn University. The posts are about naturally occurring fluid mechanics phenomena that I noticed on a daily basis.

Heart as a Pump
Today I was thinking about some of the basic fluid mechanic principles that support life. I became aware that a heart functioning as a pump and is one of the most critical fluid mechanic processes that occurs inside the human body. I remembered a heart is composed of 4 valves and 4 chambers. The 2 chambers called ventricles push the flow of blood through the body by contracting. This contraction creates a pressure gradient that is the driving force for the flow of blood throughout the entire human body.
