Leupold laser range finder that I used while hunting. |
Today is the opening day of Alabama's whitetail deer hunting season. I haven't missed the opening day of hunting season since I was 10 years old. I was in my treestand armed with my bow and arrow. It is critical when bow hunting to know the distance of the target. Since the deer can come into view at multiple different ranges I use a laser rangefinder to determine the distance of various key objects around the stand and judge the relative distances from those objects. I was mindful of how the rangefinder works, it shoot a small laser beam at an object and records the time it took for the laser to be reflected. Since the speed of light through the atmosphere is a known velocity, the distance that the light beam traveled can be calculated.
