Formual One Engine

BMW F1 racing engine which powered the 2006 Sauber F1.
I continued to watch the F1 series races and found out that there is a maximum RPM restriction for the F1 racing engines. The engines can not surpass 18,000 RPM during the course of the race. I knew that an average car runs between 1000 and 6000 RPM and I became mindful that the F1 extreme rotational frequency greatly reduced the engine life. I then found out that there is a restriction on the number of engines you can use in a series. In an 18 race series you can only use 8 engines. With an average race length of around 300 mi. and a required engine life of just over 2 races, these racing engines get just about 700 mi. out of one engine. This is due to the mechanical integrity of the internal components in the engines.
