Today, a fellow classmate sent me a science video. This is another video post by the the same author. This video shows an experiment where the author alters the chemical properties of the solid water by adding salt. The salt lowers the melting point of the ice to around 20 °F. I was mindful that this supercooling lowers the temperature of the water in the beaker to below its freezing point and turns the state of the water into a sub-cooled liquid. The water then needs a surface to begin freezing on. The glass has a very slick inner surface and with gentle care the water can be kept from forming crystals until you add a rough surface to crystallize on, in this case a piece of solid ice.
